Overview Of Serta iComfort Mattress Review
If you're in the market for a traditional memory foam mattress, the Serta iComfort Blue Max could be the perfect bed for you. It's an all-foam bed that's particularly accommodating for side sleepers, thanks to a top layer of cooling gel memory foam that's designed for pressure relief. All in all, we think the Serta iComfort mattress is worth it if you love the feeling of memory foam and you've got a decent budget to work with.
In our Serta mattress reviews, we'll share all of the important details about the Serta iComfort Blue Max. You'll find out how the bed feels, how firm it is, how much it costs, and much more. Read on for our complete Serta reviews, or use the jump links below to find a particular section.
Serta iComfort Feel and Firmness
This bed has a dense yet soft memory foam feel. We think it feels like you're melting into the material. When you lay down on this bed, you'll find yourself sinking in and contouring around your body, almost like the bed is hugging you.
This bed has a dense yet soft memory foam feel. We think it feels like you're melting into the material. When you lay down on this bed, you'll find yourself sinking in, and the material contouring around your body, almost like the bed is giving you a hug.
You do get that "stuck" feeling with this bed, which, again, is typical of a lot of memory foam mattresses. Do not get this bed if you want something bouncy and responsive. Switching sleeping positions on this mattress is no small task.
-
Frimness
This mattress comes in two firmness options: Cushion Firm and Plush. The Plush option is a medium on the firmness scale and has a traditional viscose memory foam feel. The Cushion Firm sits at about a medium-firm to firm.
-
Pressure Relief
Finding a mattress that provides pressure relief is important for many people, including those who sleep on their side and people dealing with chronic pain. If that's the case for you, we recommend going with the Plush version of the Serta iComfort mattress.
-
Temperature
While the Serta iComfort Blue Max 1000 does have three layers of cooling gel foam, we found this bed to sleep temperature neutral.
Memory foam beds like this one usually tend to heat up and sleep warm, so the cooling technology does a good job of neutralizing that. Whether you sleep warm or cool will have to do with more external factors, such as your thermostat, pajamas or local climate.

Serta iComfort Mattress Construction
The Serta iComfort Blue Max 1000 is a 13" thick, all-foam mattress. That's 3" thicker than your standard all-foam bed. The mattress has three layers to provide comfort:
- Support foam: The foam core serves as a base
- Memory foam: 3" of thick EverCool Supreme Memory Foam
- Gel foam: 1" layer of TempActiv Max Gel Memory Foam to help you stay cool while you sleep
Also, all Serta foam is certified by CertiPur and has been tested by suppliers to ensure that they are made without prohibited phthalates, ozone depleters, mercury, lead or other heavy metals, formaldehyde, or PBDEs. They also have low emission of VOCs for indoor air quality.
One feature that sets the Serta iComfort Blue Max 1000 apart from the rest is the cover. It's a ribbed cover in grey with a few blue lines across it.
It's very soft and thick. When we asked what the cover is made out of, they told us it's a special proprietary material.
While the cover is removable, we don't suggest you ever remove it. If you happen to spill anything on the bed, spot clean with some mild detergent and warm water. Regardless, the dark color of the cover does a good job of hiding stains.
Body Type Analysis
Your weight is an important factor to consider when you're picking out a mattress. In general, heavier people put more pressure on a bed, which makes it feel softer to them. The reverse is true as well, with petite people often perceiving beds to be firmer than they're described.
-
For petite people, this bed is fine. You might want to go for the plush option because lighter people tend to lay more on top of mattresses instead of in them. Though, really petite side sleepers may want a softer option.
-
For average-weight sleepers, we recommend evaluating your sleep style and comfort needs. If you like a softer feel, the plush version would be a great choice. If you're a back or stomach sleeper, the comfort firm will offer more support.
-
The iComfort isn't our favorite mattress for heavy and overweight people, to whom we usually recommend hybrid mattresses with springs, but it's not the worst foam option because it's 13" thick. The Cushion Firm option might offer ample support to make sure you aren't sinking into the mattress and getting too hot at night.
Serta iComfort Reviews Sleeper Type Analysis
Your sleeping style is something else you should think about as you shop around for mattresses. Some sleepers will prefer the Serta iComfort Plush model, while others will appreciate the Cushion Firm. Find your sleeper type so see which one is best for you.
-
Back Sleepers
Of the two firmness options, the Cushion Firm is the one to get if you're a back or stomach sleeper. It will still have a true memory foam feel, but you'll get a much firmer sleeping surface, which should help your back.
-
Stomach Sleepers
Similar to back sleepers, people that sleep on their stomach need support underneath their lower back and trunk. For that reason, the Cushion Firm model is the better choice for stomach sleepers since it provides a firmer basis of support.
-
Side Sleepers
For side sleepers , the Plush version, as you'd expect, is the better option. It offers a lot more pressure relief , which is what you're looking for, particularly for your hips and shoulders.
-
Combo Sleepers
As for combo sleepers, this bed might have a little too much resistance when you try to switch positions at night. This makes it difficult to move around on the bed and could potentially cause less restful sleep. Alternatively, it could cause you to want to move around less, so it depends on the sleeper. Though, if you're used to this memory foam feel as a combo sleeper, we suggest the Plush model.
Is Serta iComfort A Good Mattress For Couples?
Possibly. First, both partners must absolutely love memory foam to buy this mattress. If that's the case, we can proceed by discussing two extra elements that are important to couples.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is all about how well the bed absorbs movement. Memory foam beds are usually good at stopping cross-mattress motion, and that is the case with the Serta iComfort Blue Max 1000 mattress.
Edge Support
Edge support lets you enjoy more of your mattress, especially if you sleep with your partner. Learn more about edge support and why it matters to help you sleep better at night.
The edge support on this bed is good, but not great.
The one caveat with regard to edge support is that memory foam has the habit of remembering your shape, hence the name. As such, once you find yourself along the edge of the bed, it's harder to roll back into the center than it is to roll off.
What Does The Serta iComfort Mattress Cost?
The Blue Max 1000 mattress is not cheap, but it's not expensive either—it's in the sweet spot for a lot of consumers. Here's a pricing breakdown for the mattress.
SIZE | PRICE |
---|---|
Twin XL | $1499 |
Full | $1649 |
Queen | $1799 |
King | $2299 |
Cal King | $2299 |
The interesting thing with brands such as Serta, Sealy Posturepedic, Simmons Beautyrest, and Tempur-Pedic is that the retailer only has so much control over pricing. They typically can't offer coupon codes, but they can throw in incentives to sweeten the pot a little.
US-Mattress sometimes offers cash discounts or will bundle in Visa gift cards or consumer electronics. You can check our Mattress Coupons page to see the deals that we've spotted today.
Serta iComfort Mattress Review Verdict
If you love memory foam, you'll probably love the Serta iComfort Blue Max. Go for the plush option if you're a side sleeper and the cushion firm option if you're a back or stomach sleeper. Because this is an all-foam mattress, it may not provide the best support for heavy-weight sleepers, so we recommend taking advantage of the four-month trial period.

Comparing Serta iComfort Alternatives
-
Comparing Serta iComfort vs. Casper
If you're on a budget, Casper takes the cake in terms of an affordable mattress . For comparison, the queen size Casper mattress is just over $1,000 at MSRP, while the Serta iComfort queen size is closer to $1,800. With such a price difference, you do get fewer features, such as the additional gel foam layer that comes with Serta. Furthermore, the Casper mattress is suitable for sleepers who like medium support, while Serta offers options for both softer and more firm mattress types.
-
Comparing Serta iComfort vs. Tuft & Needle
Tuft & Needle also offers a significantly cheaper alternative compared to the Serta iComfort Mattress. Customers can purchase a Tuft & Needle Original queen mattress for just $695 (before discounts) . The Tuft & Needle mattress only includes two foam layers, so it isn't as durable or supportive as the Serta mattress. While the Serta iComfort can be good for some heavy-weight sleepers, the construction and layers of the Tuft & Needle mattress make it more suitable for petite and average-weight users.
-
Comparing Serta iComfort vs. Purple Original
The original Purple Mattress is known for its unique layer of Hyper-Elastic Polymer. Though it doesn't function like a traditional foam mattress, it offers more pressure relief and temperature control. If you're a hot sleeper, the Purple Mattress will help keep you much cooler than Serta. In terms of price, Serta and Purple Mattress run at similar prices, though Purple is slightly more budget – friendly ($700 less to be exact).
